An Illinois band. Most of the members had been playing together in bands for several years; Bakalar and Kerestes since March 1965.
Ice began in October 1971. The band played local clubs and dances and was a popular live attraction for about a year. In March 1972, they recorded the tracks for their album at a local studio.
The Melting Your Mind album is a patchy affair, suffering mainly from poor material that does not serve to highlight the band's ability. The opening track, Daughter Of Venus is probably the record's most impressive piece, being the closest approximation of a vehicle for Young's female vocals. Most readers of this book will likely prefer Five Card Draw however, a loud bluesy jam that sounds like Farm. A couple of cuts are downright poor, with In My Oldsmobile leading the way. Sadly, no minds were melted by this album.(Clark Faville)
